After commercial success in the 80’s and 90’s, Lynn stopped showing and spent a decade painting and growing- thinking more about what pleased her than what appealed to others.
The result is a series of paintings and drawings that are free and fresh, but unmistakably Lynn Larson.
In 2009, she emerges. We are pleased to announce the release of her new body of works: Pencil and Paint 2009.
Her Process:
She works from live subject matter, spends time in the garden and takes long walks collecting twigs, leaves, rocks, bugs, (you name it). Then, in the studio, over several days she draws the subject matter in pencil. But she doesn't capture a moment in time, when shadow or colors are stationary. If there is a shade of purple or red on the leave at 10 AM, she records it. The color put down, if at noon when another color appears she adds it, even if the red and purple have faded or retreated.
Looking at her work is a bit like watching a time-lapse film of a flower opening, or a cloud rolling across a sky- except that each painting is a single, seamless image- one large still of all colors.
When you watch her paint you soon realize she draws with watercolors- laying in color after color, detail next to detail. Hours, days or weeks later the end result is an unmistakable Lynn Larson painting.
